I have been learning a lot about crypto from steemit, among other sources, and I've always wanted to try my hand at mining; just for fun if nothing else. I own a decent gaming PC and wanted to see how it would perform.
I have little to no idea of what I'm doing, so this is how it went down:
1. First I discovered the need for a wallet that will accept ETH, Jaxx seemed to be the most recommended.
2. Apparently the thing to do is mine for a pool, I settled on Nanopool for no reason in particular. Notice the 0.2 ETH minimum payout, that will take me a while...
3. Finally I needed a program to do the mining and came across Genoil which after entering my pool and wallet address worked right away.
Everything seems to be going well........ guess we will see at 0.2 if the Nanopool pays out and all that works with Jaxx.
For now I just mine while sleeping or at work because the computer is virtually un-useable with Genoil running which apparently has something to do with the Nvidia GPU not multi-tasking properly or something? (which AMD cards are apparently better optimized for)
The GPU is already slightly overclocked for gaming, didn't mess with that for the mining.
Even though I have a water-cooled CPU it is not overclocked, and doesn't seem to play much of a part in the mining.
I tried for a while finding a way to decrease the % of GPU power that is being used but with no luck.
I also tried running it in CUDA mode and that made the computer more usable but it crashed after working for a while.
- Do you think I'm mining the right Currency?
- Do you think Jaxx is a good wallet?
- Do you think I've chosen well with Nanopool?
- Do you think Genoil is the most efficient program to be using?
- Should I change any settings?
Even with the setbacks I'm sure it's just a matter of time:
