The first sign of trouble was when we went for a walk to the shop in the Reserve about 500 m from where our room was, we saw Vervet Monkeys coming out of the bush and it was the way they looked at us - we knew they were up to something and that they knew something that we did not.!
Sure enough - when we got back from the shop, we saw Vervet Monkeys on our roof eating bread!
Our neighbor had left their upstairs window open - and the monkeys were going in to help themselves to the food in the kitchen.
We chased the last monkey out - with his spoils in his mouth - a slice of bread.
And being the good neighbors that we are, my son climbed up and closed the windows from the outside. This stopped the monkeys from getting back in but also presented a problem for our neighbors - when they returned to their room - they found it upside-down with food scattered around and lamps and goods knocked over - they knew monkeys had been inside but could not work out how they got inside - until we came over and told them - we all had a good laugh.
