I kept moaning about Spring not coming and now, when it's finally here, I forgot to write about the first flower of the year: the snowdrop. I will rectify this mistake using monocolorsepia tag created by my dear as an opportunity to share some photos. 🙂
The snowdrops, or Galanthus, is a genus of plants in the family Amaryllidaceae (this is the family of amaryllis, daffodils but also, onions and chives). The Galanthus genus is a small one, about 20 species so this is one reason for which snowdrops are so special.
Being the first flower that blooms (many times finding its way out through the white layer of snow), the snowdrop is a symbol of hope. Also, it is a sign of something new that is about to appear. And a sign of confidence.
Yes, the snowdrops are beautiful and bring hope however they can harm our pets (cats and dogs) due to the phenanthridine alkaloids contained by the leaves, stems and bulbs. They have a moderate toxicity but it's still recommended for our furry friends to stay away. 🙂
Now... What photo did you like and why?
Check out the challenge started by me and , SeasonChallenge. We would love to learn about your impressions towards the Spring (these being the theme until 3rd of June).
