Before starting, I just want to mention that this is my first post, and i'm still not very familiar how exactly this works, so forgive my lack of knowledge and mistakes.
Ok, so before I say anything I just want to say that I am a veteran of the saga. I've been playing Monster Hunter since the Freedom series for the PSP since 2007/2008. And as much as I love the games, I have to say this Monster Hunter had me excited up to where I saw how the "farm" worked. Also this is only focused on the farm part, the combat, graphics etc are not consider it in this post.
Farm on Freedom saga and 3rd Portable
Since the first Monster Hunter game, the hunter (you), had access to a farm, where you were able to recollect every type of resources excluding the monsters parts:
- Fish
- Mushrooms
- Minerals
- Herbs
- Honey
- Insects
And the Trenya cat Exclusive for the Monster Hunter Freedom Unite game
(I won't talk about the Dark Pieces, how to upgrade the farm and the Trenya cat since it is irrelevant for this post)
This version is the fully upgraded, meaning you don't get this once you begin the game.
When you first start playing you have a small farm, but you'll get enough resources for what you need, and each time you complete a certain mission of either the "campaign" or the guild room you'll, be able to upgrade it with points.
As you can see, it is pretty damn big, and that's what it makes it great. You are able to get so many resources after each mission, in which it will help you to create weapons and armor, upgrade them, create items and craft ammunition. There are few times where you need to go on a mission to gather certain materials, but they are rare since you'll most likely get the materials (farm), when you are done gathering the materials from the monster.
Farm on Ultimate saga and forward
Lazy.
Just, lazy.
There is no other word to describe it. Some people might say is simple, but the previous farm system was already simple, just because it took some minutes to do it, it did not mean that it was complex.
This system is not only lazy, but it forces you to do missions to farm the materials you need and to gain points for the farm, because this system is not cheap at all.
At the end of the day, you're going to spend as much time gathering materials and points as hunting monsters... and I don't know about you, but this game is called MONSTER HUNTER FOR A GODDAMN REASON!!
This is all I have to say for now, if you want me to go more in depth as to why this is worse I'll make another post.
Thank you for reading this, I hope you like it and if you have some feedback as to make better posts i'll be more than happy to read them :)
