After leaving Sarajevo, the next town I stayed in was Mostar. I took a train there, and the train actually died for over an hour on the way there, but Mostar was worth the wait.
When I got out of my room to explore the town, the first thing I saw was this raging river beneath a bridge. For some reason, this bridge was incredibly windy, and I had to hold my phone with both hands to keep the wind from ripping it away from me.
I just started walking with no real idea where I was going, but the buildings were very beautiful, so I figured I was on the right track for something cool.
Eventually I found Mostar's stari grad(old town), and what the town in famous for... Stari Most.
The bridge was built in the 1500s, and the town was actually named after the keepers of this bridge.(the mostari)
When it was built, it was the highest arch bridge in the world.
The bridge is so steep that it's actually difficult to cross because the stones are slippery, and there are raised boards for you to step on. I learned that you have to use them or you won't make it...
Eventually I crossed the bridge and walked down to the river below.
I still can't get over the color of the water in this river! It's very clear when it's shallow, and as soon as it gets deep it turns into this green-blue color! It's amazing.
I am actually going back to Mostar very soon for a couple of days, so I can try to capture the feel of old town. It's a bustling, beautiful marketplace that is filled with shiny and amazing things.
Here is my obligatory bridge selfie.
So far, Mostar is the most beautiful city that I've ever seen, and I am excited to return.
