It's been almost 3 weeks since I last worked on the cot bumpers. It's been a while, I know.
I'm realising, at the moment, the more mobile Bella gets the less free time I have. The only time I do have is when Hubby's home and Bella's not too tired. If she's too tired she doesn't want anyone else but me which basically means I need to stop whatever I'm doing and be the cuddle machine that I've become.
Why the renewed interest in the cot bumpers?
The cot bumper stuff (padding, materials, sewing machine) have been dumped in Bella's room this whole time. Actually, everything has been dumped in Bella's room recently. But since we recently invested in a new single bed everything needs to be cleared out to make way for it which means I need to get a move on and make the cot bumpers so it's one less thing to worry about.
Materials Prep
I sat down and tried to get my vision for the bumpers in order.
I figured I needed 5 pieces sewn up.
2 for the head and foot of the cot, 2 for the bars and 1 for the rail.
I decided to not get carried away and cut all the pieces I need now just in case I need to make adjustments to the design later on so I figured I'd work on the biggest pieces first which were the head and foot bumpers since those are made of solid timber and the hardest parts of the cot.
The cuts are not exact. I left plenty of room on all sides just in case I needed it later on. I know I need extra material on one side for the 'insert' bit but who knows how this will pan out?
The next thing I need to figure out is how I'm going to attach these to the cot.
I have velcro but don't think I have enough. I can use ribbons but I'm undecided about that because Bella loves ribbons and I'm concerned she'll end up playing with them or worse choking on them.
Whatever it is I need to figure it out quick. My goal is to get this sorted tomorrow. 😅
Wish me luck!
