OK, so I was finally able to view this - yay! It played flawlessly on Busy, but it seems to have issues here for whatever reason.
Anyway, I feel exactly how you do about audiobooks. I tend to lean more toward fiction though, despite the fact that most of the books I've personally narrated -- which are on Audible ... I think almost all audiobooks nowadays are :p -- are non-fiction. Go figure. Non-fiction is just easier to narrate at this point for me and I'm so busy doing audiobook proofing for another narrator and editing books that I just don't have the time to jump fully into longer works of fiction.
I started regularly listening to them about 14-ish years ago and it's my favorite way to 'read' a book. I simply don't have time to sit down and read books so I finally realized that if I wanted to read it was either audiobooks or ... nothing. My son is dyslexic and he definitely prefers audio formats for stories as well but his bias is more for Graphic Audio types of books.
I love to plug into an audiobook when I'm doing mindless tasks. Though I certainly can't listen when I'm doing something that involves the same part of my brain that is being utilized when I'm listening to a book. And I've discovered to my dismay that I can sometimes get a bit too wrapped up in an audiobook when I'm driving; I have driven past a turn before, during a particularly climactic moment in a book (The Lincoln Lawyer in this case) so that was a bit sobering. ha!!
Despite my preference for fiction works though, I am currently listening to Jordan B. Peterson's 12 Rules book. It's pretty good. Quite long though!
