In the past few years many people from all backgrounds have shared their stories of how mental illness has effected their lives and it has sparked a much wider discussion, although there is still a lot yet to learn.
One area I have not seen being talked about is the fact that loving life and loving your life are two separate things, it may sound silly at first because it sounds quite contradicting however I ask you to allow me to share my thoughts with you.
I think that everyone lives in their own world in the sense we each see the things around us and ourselves in a unique way thus we each have a slightly differing view on the world around us. From what I have seen, people see their own life separately from the world around them. Of course mental health can change the way you see the world however you never see yourself and the world as the same thing.
My point being when we think of life as a whole we look at it differently than we do ourselves, and this should be transferred into how we look at depression in some way.
Us vs The World
Many people go through periods where they hate themselves and their lives however you cant hate everything that exists. It sounds a bit like a hippy speech but there is always some beauty to be found in life, I don't think a person can simply hate absolutely everything, there most be something out there that a person could find beauty in or take inspiration from.
It could be a love for nature, animals, food, Tv, video games, science, sport, someone, anything.
People don't hate life they hate the life they are in, if you offered a depressed person happiness for the rest of their life they would take it. I think it could be a very helpful thing for people to be able to identify the two things because even if someone hates themselves if they try they will be able to find something they like too spend at least some time doing, then in time people will start to find inspiration in more things and it might spill over into their life and thoughts on themselves.
