I am going to take the interested few on a restoration ride over the coming months.
The Yamaha rd 250lc, 350lc & 350lc ypvs series are one of my favourite series of bikes, add into that mix the rd 500lc and you have a near perfect selection of 1980's screamers, 2 stroke heaven for some, like me.
I managed to get hold of this pair in 1 deal for £1450 or $1885, they currently sell for this year 1984 (both are 84) for between £6000 - £8000 each example 1. example 2. I do all the work myself, except for re-boring barrels as I do not have that tooling. I will be rebuilding both engines, doing all the paintwork from frame to panels, and everything else, nobody else will be involved.
The one with the red petrol tank will be the first one I am going to restore, the other will be donor parts for now, I have finished the Suzuki x4 restoration after finishing the petrol tank yesterday with a coat of 2k lacquer as below.
Not enough shine you say?
I have yet to buff that lacquer up to high gloss, as the petrol tank needs 24 hours to dry, I leave them for 48 hours to be on the safe side, I messed up last week and had to strip it back to bare metal (again) though it was all my own fault, and I knew better than to rush coats, that is the beauty of doing it yourself, you have nobody else to blame, so the buck stops at me!
So there you have it, that is my next two projects this week and for a month or two, weather permitting.
I only aim to keep one after they are done, so the other will be up for grabs.
