As I have covered all forms of transportation technologies with a special emphasis on prototypes and concept models which will someday be mass produced and sold to the public. In this article I will focus on MCN's 2017 electric superbike of the year, the Energica Ego!
The 2017 Energica Ego made waves as it shocked and amazed watchers on the road and at this year’s TT Zero. There it set a new record and became the first production electric bike to lap the famous 37¾-mile track.
Some interesting features include that it can do 0-60 in less than three seconds even though it is a heavy beast weighing in at 280kg. Surprisingly it is said to handle a lot better than other bikes in this weight class. In terms of its asthetics, if you put it next to a normal gas guzzling superbike of similar build you'd never know that this baby is all electric!
The Italian built machine comes with quality adjustable 43mm Marzocchi suspension, Brembo brakes, a reverse gear, ABS and a multi-function digital dash with Bluetooth connectivity.A limited 45-unit run of a special edition Ego45 also has a fast-charging system, OZ wheels, Öhlins suspension and carbon fibre bodywork.
Energica claims the electric motor has twice the torque of a superbike from zero revs to 4700rpm and around the same bhp as a GSX-R750. Power arrives and there’s just one continuous wave of thrust. Rider modes can be changed on the move and you can also adjust the level of engine braking and battery regeneration within the riding modes. Battery range is between 80-120miles. The Ego is heavy, but feels surprisingly light on the move. This is a very serious machine.
Take a moment and check out this awesome review of the bike below:
What do you think? Wouldn't you love to get your hands on one of these monsters! Can you believe this thing has ditched the petrol and runs on electric? We have come a long way indeed!
