Review of the action film "John Wick 2" without spoilers.
John Wick's second chapter: A New Day to Kill is the sequel to one of the best action movies ever made, released in 2017 and is the second joint work of directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski. It has been very well received by the critics and its protagonist has not stopped receiving praise, the John Wick fever is such that it is preparing a spin off of the social environment in which Wick develops, in addition to a comic book that reveals the deepest secrets of this character. If you are still not up to date with this cinematographic jewel I invite you to read this review, which like all my works is free of spoiler advances.
After leaving retirement to return to the world of the murderers John Wick (Keanu Reeves) has managed to get his revenge and considers that it is time to end it all forever, decides to become a renewed man, owner of a different life, even with a new dog, but with the Pandora's box that opened in the first film there will be many people who will follow in his footsteps and not allow him to escape again. It seems that killing so many people in cold blood is not easy to leave behind.
Keanu Reeves is back, and this time in very good company, as in this film Laurence Fishburne, the remembered Morpheus in The Matrix, is added to the cast. These two actors together will once again revive the nostalgia in the followers of the famous science fiction trilogy, only this time they will arrive to make the second chapter of the action film John Wick memorable.
In 2014, John Wick's appearance on the screen was a shock because it was totally surprising to the audience, as he had a very heartbreaking story and a ruthless killer character on the part of his protagonist, developed in a new mafia environment. Many people didn't expect much when they went to the cinemas to see it, because it was predictable, but no, it turned out to be a very original, authentic and entertaining proposal.
This is the kind of role that favors Keanu Reeves as were 47 Ronin and The Matrix, where the actor gave his personal touch to the characters to the point of making them unique, he stands out for making elaborate battles in the action scenes and keeping a sober face that makes everything look very easy, natural and professional.
In the first film the mystery in it was simply captivating, it awakened the little worm of curiosity to know the hidden darkness, but the sequel gives us more of that troubled past that torments it. Keanu Reeves has been criticized for being an inflexible actor, the characters must be made to fit him, so that they can work and this is one of those cases where the mold is designed to fit him, so we cannot imagine a different John Wick, a silent and not very expressive role suits him very well, seeing him angry is scary because it is like awakening an explosive fury.
John Wick 2 is everything a sequel should seek to be, taking everything that captivated us from the first film, expanding it while maintaining quality and adding new things. What we enjoyed most about the first installment were the dynamic action scenes, so I'm pleased to report that this time the action doesn't stop, they give us epic fights in elegant locations.
The fights are quite real, elaborated with shocking choreographies that don't need explosions or unrealistic situations to be seen, it's just a man against the world, a couple of fists and a gun. John Wick's reasons for returning to the game make quite a lot of sense, it could be considered logical and necessary, so I'm grateful that they didn't force the story. Philosophy, norms, morals and ethics are valued with a strong presence in the plot.
The writer Derek Kolstad built a whole world to describe the murderous clan, in the first chapter, we could only see indications of this activity, there were certainly references to past adventures, old acquaintances and stories that were still unfinished. It is now that we have the joy of discovering everything and are amazed to see how fast is the universe of crime professionals, their code of ethics and more of John Wick's coworkers.
Soundtrack.
We feel much more involved in the circle of revenge and betrayal in an interesting international mafia network, as spectators we can understand the workings of this world and connect situations that now make sense. The director takes his work very seriously and seeks to impact the audience, it's an experience that goes beyond the two hours of filming, after watching it, there is a feeling that everything was real and that there may be silent killers stalking us, which means that the film fulfilled its purpose.
I wouldn't say that it's better than the first film, because the first installment had the surprise factor represented by the mysterious past of the character and discovering it was exciting and impressed the audience for its originality, for the second part we already know it, we are familiar with it. If you liked the first delivery you'll enjoy this one too because it's more of a John Wick formula. The third party promises to be shocking and I can't wait to see it, as it is a trilogy that should close with a golden clasp.
