Her Legend Begins
I have been huge Tomb Raider fan since the first game, many many moods ago, back when Lara still had a bit of a block head and very big blocky chest.
This is probably due to growing up with Indian Jones, and Lara Croft is literally the female version of Indie. The new Tomb Raider reboot hit the cinemas this weekend, so some of you might already have gone to see it, so please no spoilers in the comments. What I can tell from the trailer, part from being a complete reboot, this movie seems to be following the 2013 video game story line. Which I really like as the game story was amazing, it was a origin story of how Lara Croft becomes the infamous tomb raider we have all come to love.
I have a tiny little gripe with this, as it's almost scene for scene from the game, which in my opinion is a tab bit lazy. This also means I will then just be watching exactly what I have seen before. I'm going to hold thumb that this will not be a complete disappointment. I noticed that most of the movie was apparently shot in Cape Town, which is a good thing.
"Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father's global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he's truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can't understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death. Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad's last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn't..." - Warner Bros. Pictures
"A famous explorer once said, that the extraordinary is in what we do, not who we are. I’d finally set out to make my mark; to find adventure. But instead adventure found me. In our darkest moments, when life flashes before us, we find something; Something that keeps us going. Something that pushes us." - Lara Croft
I'm giving this trailer a hopeful 7/10 rating, although I like that it's based off the game, it lacks a little creativity.
