This is the one the other movies have been building up to. There are so many characters that they had to introduce. If you haven't seen the latest Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther then you may be a little lost. Geekdad always has a good guide to this sort of movie. They don't give spoilers and I'll try not to either.
Anyone who has seen it will notice something wrong with the still for the trailer above.
This is a pretty epic move at over two and a half hours. It keeps switching between different locations on Earth and elsewhere, so I didn't have problems keeping track. There's a nice sequence in Edinburgh around locations I know well.
It all centres around Thanos who wants to acquire all the magical infinity stones so he can execute his grand plan. He's pretty ruthless in that and he has a massive army to help him. Even so he seems to do a lot of the work himself. There have been rumours that we would lose some major characters and you should be prepared for some 'OMG!' moments.
Of course the effects are stunning. I saw this with my son at the local IMAX and it was a sensory overload. I found the 3D more noticeable than some others. The Geekdad article suggests 3D may make some darker scenes harder to make out, but I didn't find that. You often cannot tell what is CGI in some scenes, but I found Thanos didn't look quite real enough at times. Some characters don't have much to do other than fight, but there's some nice interplay, especially between Thor and the Guardians and between Tony Stark and Dr Strange. Personally I'd love to see a Groot movie :)
You have to see this if you have been following the other movies. It's part one of two and we will have to wait a while for part two. The ending definitely leaves a lot of open questions. You need to hang around until after the very long credits for a single extra scene.
This feature talks about some of the other movies we may get before part two. I hadn't even heard of some of them. I expect to be seeing Deadpool 2 pretty soon. Other movies coming up are Solo: A Star Wars Story and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Captain Marvel should be interesting as Marvel have not had a female lead before.
Update: Just found this timeline for all that happens in the movies, including the latest.
