If you saw my post about thee book "1001 movies you must see before you die". You'll know that I am atempting to watch all 1001 movies. This is my review of Steamboat Bill, Jr. (movie #6)
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
Just looking at this movie for a couple of minutes you'll quickly realise that there is one thing that sticks out above all else. It's set design. With twists, turns and strongly defined shadows among other things. That's what I like the most about this movie. You can't but help to look at how visualy great this movie looks.
As far as the story goes it's very simple but very effective and the characters make the story that much more effective. They've done a great job making Dr. Caligari as mysterious and unique from the rest of the cast and it really works. Just from looking at him you can tell that there's something sinister about him.
Score: 7/10
