After watching a few American movies this week, I went back to European cinema and grabbed a French flick about the journey of a young boy who was abandoned as a baby in France.
Remi was adopted by a young girl who raised him as her own but, unfortunately, when her husband came back home with an injury after a few years gone... he wasn't happy to see that his wife kept the boy instead of sending him to the orphanage, as he wanted her to. Her angry husband unilaterally decides to sell the young boy to a wandering street performer, a mysterious musician who goes by the name of Master Vitalis. Here began the adventures of the boy with his master as they traveled through France, giving spectacles in the streets to collect money to survive.
The movie is a very warm one which makes you feel good for most of the time. Of course, being a drama it has its share of sad moments.
Rémi Sans Famille (2018), by Antoine Blossier: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6741368
The original movie is in French but sadly I couldn't get the original version. I ended up watching the movie dubbed in English, which takes some charm away from it.
The acting was good but without the original voices, I didn't get the best experience. If you can, try to watch the original one... but if can't find it, you won't regret seeing it in English.
The movie is mostly shot in France, which provides the setting for some really gorgeous landscapes.
The movie is told from the perspective of the main character when he is an old man, sharing the story of his life to a group of young orphans...
The plot is an adaptation of the French novel Sans Gamille, published in 1878 by the author Hector Malot.
I give this title an 8 out of 10. It's a nice story with an happy ending. A perfect story to watch at night, so you can go to bed with a smile on your lips.
