“A girl knows her name,
A girl is the lady of Winterfell,
A girl is now the god of death.. of many faces.
Slayer of the night king.
Her name is Arya stark.
The last face you need to remember as you take your breathe.
Is a stark smiling down at you as you die.”
excerpt from G.O.T
Yesterday, game of thrones episode three of the season's finale was a blast. No show in the history of television will be able to rival the "The long night". This war sent shivers into my spine whilst I livestreamed it when it was aired at this end of my world, Nigeria.
My thoughts to script how I felt about episode three will go back and forth.
My thoughts
So far, amongst all the battles and war that ever transpired in game of thrones, "The long night" can't be rivaled with any war-episodes because the intensity of the war was so real and terrifying. All the war scenes focused on the important characters was actioned filled and thrilling from start to finish.
There were times when the morale amongst the living was heightened and I thought the living will win it in one full swoop given they had dragon glass, a few with valyrian steel, two great armies, two full grown dragons and the sudden arrival of the red woman melisandre but all of a sudden the tides and intensity changed 'cause the dead where like an ocean and overshadowed the living with what I'd call a deep-pit-swallow attack.
If you are yet to watch it, here's a brief run through of what happened in the show.
-1- The red priestess melisandre suddenly appears at Winterfell.
-2- She boost the confidence of the living and dothraki army by setting ablaze their arakhs on fire.
-3- The dothraki army that charged towards the enemy was overshadowed by the barbaric army of the dead.
-4- Daenerys was displeasured at the fall of the terrifying dothraki army at the hands of the army of the dead and charged into the battle field with her dragon, which altered the initial battle plan to bid their time to attack the night king at god's wood.
-5- The dead overpowered the living, forcing them to retreat.
-6- Thug of war with the dead and living dragons.
-7- The trench was lit by the magic of the red woman but the dead succeeded in breaking through the flames.
-8- Arya gets into action fighting the dead who succeeded in invading Winterfell.
-9-The night king falls from the sky, lost in the thug of war of the dragon fight and was unburnt from the flames of dragon fire.
-10- Jon snow charges towards the night king in a trial to kill him via combat but was hindered by the rise of the dead made from the living who died fighting.
-11- Daenerys comes to Jon snow rescue and clears the stage for him to march towards the night king who was heading towards Bran at god's wood.
-12- Bran warged into the ravens and Theon after a chat of personal remorse with Bran gets ready to defend him.
-13- Different fight scenes of top characters, from ser brienne, Jaime, podrick, beric, sam, gendry, ser jorah, the hound and arya running for her life in the halls of Winterfell.
-14- Arya and the hound survives the onslaughting of the soul-less dead soldiers in castle of Winterfell at the expense of beric's life, meets the red woman, both recount their last encounter and the prophecy of the eyes and shutting of those eyes forever.
-15- some dead soldiers succeeded in infuriating the crypt, killed a few there.
-16- Noble deaths:
- Theon greyjoy (died protecting Bran)
- Ser Jorah (died protecting daenerys)
- Lady Lyanna (died fighting the gaint dead soldier)
- Dolarus Edd (Lord Commander - died in battle)
- Beric Dandarion (died protecting Arya)
- Lady Melisandre (certain she'll die from the onset)
- The Night King ( killed by Arya).
The show lasted for over an hour and twenty one minutes, every scene in the war was full of tension, uncertain victory and high quality filmmaking.
I am not a movie freak but for me to take an hour plus of my time to livestream game of thrones, it says a lot. It means the TV show is the best and is worth the time.
