The film Jose Rizal, which was first released in 1998, showed me well the course of life of the National Hero of the Philippines. This was made even better by the excellent performance of actor Cesar Montano in his role as Jose Rizal. It is insane to think that this film was skillfully made by the Filipinos under its production just to fully reveal to all Filipinos even to a student like me the history of our country a few decades ago under the occupation of the Spanish and management of corrupt Filipino Officials. It doesn't just show how great our National hero is. It has also well portrayed nationalism as well as heroism which has a great impact on each of us in having love and appreciation for our own country. Although this three -hour film does not show exactly what happened during Rizal's time, I fully understood in this drama how difficult our country was under the tyranny of the Spaniards, corrupt officials, even the priests during that time.
The whole film revolves around the life of our National Hero and I realize that there is nothing like the pure love he showed for our country so much so that he even sacrificed his life for its good. Unlike Rizal, right now I cannot fully imagine what I can sacrifice for our country but if I ever lived during the time of our National Hero, I will make sure that I wholeheartedly support his good will for the country. Like him, I also want to help every Filipino citizen to be free from the violence and oppression of our country’s occupiers, abusive rulers and the authorities. Because as the film shows, what these cruel people did was really unfair. They killed innocent people, raped Filipino women and forced Filipino workers to work. And it's amazing because it's well presented in the film even though this part is very sensitive for the viewers. My emotions were mixed while watching the whole movie. There were even a few times that I didn’t want to watch the sensitive parts of the film because it was so brutal. But this dramatization of Rizal's life is so much a collection of lessons that I wish everyone could watch.
As a youth and student, Rizal's life also had a big impact on me as well as the good qualities he displayed and his good intentions for the country. When I watched Jose Rizal's efforts and excellence in education from the time he was a child until he graduated in the field of medicine, it once again reminded me to work hard and do my best while I was still young. and have determination in doing so. Not just in the field of education but also in the field of art. He not only showed his artistic talent but also showed his love for his neighbor and our country. That is why he is a great role model for all of us especially young people like me who have high dreams not only for myself but also for my family and country.
