Limitless
This movie is special because it portrays a fantasy that I’m sure many of us have, the fantasy of changing our lives for the better in the shortest amount of time possible. Even if we might not have the same “opportunities” as the main character of this film, there are still plenty of essential lessons that can be picked from him.
Disclaimer: I have to note that these are my opinions, that I took from the movie, but I advise you to watch it yourself, maybe you will feel differently or pick up on something I missed.
Master your brain
One idea promoted in the movie is the fact that people are only using 10% of their brains, and that if you could access all of your brain’s potential, you would be able to do some amazing things. Even if this theory is essential for the fundamentals of this movie, it is in fact just a myth that is false.
You are using all of your brain’s capacity; multiple parts of your brain get activated even for the smallest activities that you’re performing. Your brain is working all the time, doing things that you’re not even conscious of, like making sure your cells have enough air.
But, even so, even if you’re using all of your brains, there’s still plenty of unexploited potentials because what matters the most is what you are using your brain for. The difference between the elite athletes and the regular people is the fact that the athletes are using their brain to reach goals, and are focused on that at all times, their thoughts are more centered, when, on the other hand, the regular people are thinking about all kinds of meaningless things.
The athletes don’t spend their time thinking about Kim Kardashian, and worthless mass-media drama, they only think about themselves, the people close to them and their goals, they think about the things that truly matter to them.
Take hold of your brain, and use it to accomplish what you desire; don’t let it get you distracted from your path through useless thoughts. Your brain is a great slave but a harmful master.
Change
Eddie Morra, the main character, is, at the beginning of the movie, a broke and lost man that hits rock bottom after he gets dumped by his girlfriend. He is a writer, that has a book deal but, still, he has no book because he never writes, he always postpones it. But, somehow, until the end of the film, he manages to shift his life around, and he even joins politics with the goal of changing the world.
Of course, he does all that thanks to the fictional smart drug called NZT but, even if this drug does not exist, I see it more as a metaphor. What that smart drug gave Eddie was the focus and the motivation to change his life, and you can achieve those on your own. Many people throughout the history wished for a pill that can change their lives for them but, even if such a pill does, and might never exist, you can still accomplish your goals and achieve your truest potential.
Everything starts with analyzing your life, think of where you want to get and look at the things that drag you down. Eliminate those behaviors that keep you from being successful, and replace them with something that will pay you back tremendously.
Once you change your behaviors, once you achieve a constant level of great energy through eating better, and exercising more, once you gain an intrinsic motivation that keeps you going, you will be able to achieve anything, and, eventually, change your life. Yes, it’s not as easy as taking a pill; nothing worth pursuing is easy but, it is doable, and that’s all we need.
Success
Success, huh? What a thing. Something everybody’s talking about, something everybody desires, something promoted through all the ways of communication but, still, what it actually is? There is no set definition of success, for some may mean having millions, and for others may just mean something as simple as having a happy family.
But, the way I see it, there are three major categories in which each one of us has to succeed to have a comfortable life, and those are Health, Wealth, and Relationships. These three are essential to have in our lives.
You need health, so your life doesn’t become a struggle to survive, and to accomplish that, you need, of course, to live a healthy lifestyle. You also need wealth; you need to have some money because money is empowering, they can help you do a lot of great things. Lastly, but not least, you do need to have healthy relationships as well because, after all, we are social creatures, and can’t function properly without other people around us.
Thus, you need to set specific goals for each of the three categories and move closer to them every day, by taking small steps. And, the best part is that once you are successful, whatever that means to you; you are in a position of abundance from where you can help others.
Of course, you can help people along the way but, only once you help yourself, you will be able to give others life-changing help. Because the millionaires-billionaires of the world have a tremendous amount of money, they can help people financially, and many of them are doing but, you and I are not able to do such a thing unless we become successful as well.
And, that’s what Eddie Morra tried to do as well; he, at first wanted to become successful for himself, out of mainly selfish reasons. But, once he got up there, he realized that he could do a lot more, and impact the world, thus he tried to move in that direction constantly.
You first need to be selfish, so you can be a lot more generous later, once you’re in a position of abundance and happiness.
Lessons Learned
Limitless is a brilliantly created movie that has plenty of lessons to share thanks to the fundamental subjects it is touching.
If you’re using your brain to focus on what matters to you, to change your life for the better while utilizing clear strategies to accomplish the goals you have set for yourself in the three major categories, you will get in a position of abundance from where you will be able to help other people more than ever before, and these are the main lessons I took from this movie.
