Finding a Horror movie that manages to make an impact or that is an original enough story to make a difference, is a difficult task nowadays. I like the genre, but there are too many bad horror movies being made these days.
A few nights ago I came across this Argentinian film, it didn't catch my attention, but I saw that it was classified as a horror film and decided to watch it, without many expectations.
First I must warn that the movie has a slow pace. The story develops slowly. I always report this, because there are many viewers who shy away from movies that take their time to tell a story. If you are one of those who can't stand a leisurely pace, don't read on, because the movie won't interest you. On the other hand, if you like a leisurely pace, you can keep reading this review and you might like the movie.
There are many stories about haunted houses, but the plot of this movie and its initial part is interesting. It is a pity that in its final part, there are some scenes a little absurd, almost a little ridiculous. Specifically it is one scene, but for that simple detail I am not going to qualify the whole product as bad. The film has other factors that make it a regular film within the horror genre. It doesn't stand out, it's not an amazing piece of work, but much of the plot is interesting and kept me interested in knowing the direction the story would take for its denouement.
Like most independent or low-budget films in this genre, there are few characters and virtually only one location, the funeral home referred to in the film's title, where the house the characters inhabit is also located.
Who is the director?
Mauro Iván Ojeda debuts with this horror film. I don't know anything about the filmmaker's background, only that he was in charge of directing a short film about the soccer player Leo Messi. According to his IMDB profile, he not only directs the film, but also wrote the screenplay. This film is his Opera Prima and that is why I am going to be very kind to give my opinion, I know how difficult it is to carry out a film project in Latin America. The effort and work is triple that in a country with more resources for cinema. Making films in Latin America is a courageous task.
Although the film did not impact me, he is a director who has interesting ideas and proposals for the genre. It is his first feature film, the mistakes or small details that did not convince me at all, are totally forgivable. We must continue to support him and I hope that in his next film he surprises and shocks me.

Encontrar una película de Horror que logre impactar o que sea una historia lo suficientemente original para marcar la diferencia, es una tarea un poco difícil en estos tiempos. Me gusta el género, pero es demasiada la cantidad de malas películas de horror que se hacen hoy día.
Hace unas noches me tope con este film argentino, no llamo mi atención, pero vi que la clasificaban como una película de horror y me dispuse a verla, sin muchas expectativas.
Primero debo advertirles que la película tiene un ritmo lento. La historia se desarrolla lentamente. Siempre informo sobre esto, porque hay muchos espectadores que le huyen a los film que se toman su tiempo en contar una historia. Si eres de los que no soporta un ritmo sosegado, no continúes leyendo, porque la película no te va a interesar. Al contrario, si te gusta un ritmo pausado, puedes seguir leyendo esta reseña opinión y puede ser que te guste la película.
Historias sobre casas encantadas hay muchas, pero el argumento de esta película y su parte inicial es interesante. Es una lástima que su parte final, hay unas escenas que son un poco absurdas, casi que un poco ridícula. Es específicamente una escena, pero por ese simple detalle no voy a catalogar todo el producto de malo. El film tiene otros factores que la convierte en una película regular del género de horror. No sobresale, no es una obra increíble, pero gran parte de la trama es interesante y me mantuvo interesado en saber el rumbo que tomaría la historia para su desenlace.
Como la mayoría de películas independientes o bajo presupuesto sobre este género, hay pocos personajes y prácticamente una sola locación, la funeraria a la que hace referencia el título del film, donde también está ubicada la casa que habitan los personajes.
¿Quién es el director?
Mauro Iván Ojeda debuta con esta película de horror. No sé nada sobre la trayectoria del cineasta, solo que estuvo a cargo de dirigir un cortometraje sobre el futbolista Leo Messi. Según su ficha en IMDB no solo dirige la película, también escribió el guion. Esta película es su Opera Prima y por eso seré muy amable emitiendo mi opinión, se lo difícil que es llevar adelante un proyecto cinematográfico en latinoamérica. El esfuerzo y trabajo es el triple que en un país con mayores recursos destinados al cine. Hacer cine en nuestros paises es una tarea de valientes.
Aunque yo no quede totalmente satisfecho con la película, es un director que tiene ideas y propuestas interesantes para el género. Es su primer largometraje, los desaciertos o pequeños detalles que no me convencieron del todo, son totalmente perdonables. Hay que seguir apoyándolo y espero que en su siguiente película me sorprenda e impacte.
What is the plot of the film?
Bernardo manages the funeral home he inherited after the death of his father. He is married to Estela, a woman a little younger than him. She has a teenage daughter named Irina, a product of her previous marriage, her ex-husband died, but apparently it was a toxic relationship in which she was beaten. These three characters live in the house and work in the funeral home. But there is a secret that all three know and have had to learn to live with: at night, the spirits of the deceased also roam the place. Bernardo's father, Estela's ex-husband, Bernardo's lover and other spirits are present in the daily lives of the three protagonists. Irina can't take it anymore and wants to move to her grandmother's house, the tension in the relationship between the living and the dead is increasing. Bernardo, Estela and Irina do not know that there is a curse on this place and especially on the two women. What will be the course of this story? How will they overcome the curse? Is there any hope of getting out of the terrifying events that will occur?

Bernardo administra la funeraria que ha heredado después que su padre falleció. Está casado con Estela, una mujer un poco más joven que él. Ella tiene una hija adolescente llamada Irina, producto de su anterior matrimonio, su ex marido murió, pero al parecer era una relación toxica donde ella era golpeada. Estos tres personajes viven en la casa y trabajan en la funeraria. Pero hay un secreto que los tres saben y han tenido que aprender a vivir con ello: en las noches, los espíritus de los fallecidos también se pasean por todo el lugar. El padre de Bernardo, el ex marido de Estela, una amante de Bernardo y otros espíritus están presentes en la vida diaria de los tres protagonistas. Irina ya no soporta eso y desea irse a vivir a la casa de su abuela, cada vez crece la tensión en la relación entre los vivos y los muertos. Bernardo, Estela e Irina no saben que existe una maldición sobre ese lugar y especialmente sobre las dos mujeres. ¿Qué rumbo tomará esta historia? ¿Cómo vencerán a la maldición? ¿Existe esperanza de salir a salvo de los aterradores sucesos que ocurrirán?
The big difference between this ghost story and others is that the living characters already know about the existence of these ghosts. At the beginning of the film, we are shown the daily routine of Bernardo, Estela and Irina. Their work at the funeral home and the tense relationship the three maintain because at a certain moment, the spirits of the deceased will appear and may even interact with them.
Bernardo is the one who behaves more normally in the face of the spirits' actions. One of the ghosts is his father, who did not have a good relationship with Estela and Irina. But Bernardo will also have interaction with the ghost of a mistress. There are several disturbing scenes of Bernardo interacting with the ghosts. For him, it is already normal and he has become accustomed to it. At night he will go out to meet one of the spirits.
Estela wants to appear normal in this situation, but deep down everything terrifies her. Because the spirit of her former husband is present. She has a past of abuse. But she does not want to leave the house or separate from Bernardo, which causes conflicts with her daughter.
Irina is the one who takes it the worst, she is often terrified by these apparitions. Since her father died and she started living in that funeral home, she has put aside her dreams of becoming a dancer. She is in the midst of adolescence, a stage when we are all rebels.
The film introduces us to the characters in a first part with a slow pace, so that we can understand what is happening, know the past of each character, their way of being and what motivates them to continue living in that place. It is the part of the story that may bore some people, but that will change in the final stretch, when some discoveries are made about the curse that weighs on that place and the appearance of a character that plays an important role in the climax of the story.
From my point of view, a first half dominated by psychological terror and the typical supernatural apparition situations. Then a second half where there are elements of exorcisms, possessions, witchcraft and the pace picks up, when the characters' lives are in mortal danger.
Do I like it? I can say yes. I only criticize a certain scene towards the end of the film, which I found anticlimactic, absurd and perhaps a bit ridiculous. That scene took me out of the movie from the beginning. What the hell is this? I asked myself in the face of such nonsense. I didn't quite understand what the director wanted to convey with that scene, but for me it doesn't fit the film. But after that couple of minutes sequence, the story gets back on track, to give us the resolution of the whole story.
If you've read this far, it's your decision whether to watch it or not. I've given enough information for you to know if it's a movie that suits your tastes. I don't recommend it to everyone, because I know it won't be to most people's tastes. So don't blame me that because of me I wasted your time watching a movie you didn't like. I liked it and I hope that other strange beings of this world will see it and tell me their opinion.
La gran diferencia entre esta historia de fantasmas con otras, es que los personajes vivos, ya saben la existencia de esos fantasmas. Al comenzar el film, nos muestran la rutina diaria de Bernardo, Estela e Irina. Su trabajo en la funeraria y la tensa relación que mantienen los tres a causa de que a una determinada hora, los espíritus de los fallecidos aparecerán e incluso podrán interactuar con ellos.
Bernardo es quien más normal se comporta ante las acciones de los espíritus. Uno de los fantasmas es su padre, que no tenía buena relación con Estela e Irina. Pero también Bernardo tendrá interacción con el fantasma de una amante. Hay varias escenas inquietantes de Bernardo interactuando con los fantasmas. Para el , ya es algo normal y se ha acostumbrado. Por las noches saldrá para encontrarse con uno de los espíritus.
Estela quiere parecer normal ante esa situación, pero en el fondo todo eso le aterra. Porque el espíritu de su anterior esposo, está presente. Ella tiene un pasado de maltratos. Pero no quiere dejar la casa ni separarse de Bernardo, eso la hace tener conflictos con su hija.
Irina es la que peor lo lleva, muchas veces se aterra con esas apariciones. Desde la muerte de su padre y comenzar a vivir en esa funeraria, ella ha dejado sus sueños de ser bailarina de danza a un lado. Está en plena adolescencia, una etapa donde todos somos rebeldes.
El film nos presenta los personajes en una primera parte con un ritmo pausado, para que podamos entender lo que ocurre, conocer el pasado de cada personaje, su forma de ser y que los motiva a seguir viviendo en ese lugar. Es la parte de la historia que puede aburrir a varios, pero eso cambiará en la recta final, cuando se hagan algunos descubrimientos sobre la maldición que pesa sobre ese lugar y la aparición de un personaje que juega un rol importante en el clímax de la historia.
Desde mi punto de vista, una primera mitad es dominada por el terror psicológico y las típicas situaciones de apariciones sobrenaturales. Luego una segunda mitad donde hay elementos de exorcismos, posesiones, brujería y el ritmo se hace más rápido, cuando la vida de los personajes esté en peligro mortal.
¿Me gusto? Puedo decir que sí. Solo critico una determinada escena hacia el final de la película, que me pareció absurda y quizás algo ridícula. Esa escena me sacó de la película de golpe. ¿Qué coño es esto? Me pregunte ante tal despropósito. No entendí muy bien lo que el director me quiso transmitir con esa escena, pero para mí no encaja dentro del film. Pero luego de esa secuencia de un par de minutos, la historia vuelve a retomar su rumbo, para darnos la resolución de toda la historia.
Si has leído hasta este punto, es tu decisión si la ves. He dado suficiente información para que sepas si es una película que se adapta a tus gustos. No la recomiendo a todo el mundo, porque sé que no será del gusto de la mayoría. Después no me estés culpando, que por mi causa te hice perder el tiempo viendo una película que no te gusto. A mi me agrado y espero que a otros seres extraños de este mundo la vean y me digan su opinión.

From the beginning of the film we are transmitted that unsettling feeling, typical of ghost stories and supernatural apparitions. The cinematography of the film, in charge of Lucas Timerman, is very well captured. Among his previous works as cinematographer are some short films and documentaries. This seems to be his major debut in that field. He has experience as a cameraman in films such as El Crítico and Kryptonita.

La atmósfera lúgubre, inquietante y tenebrosa es un elemento que debo resaltar. Desde que inicia el film, nos transmiten esa sensación perturbadora, característica de las historias de fantasmas y apariciones sobrenaturales. Muy bien plasmada la fotografía del film a cargo de Lucas Timerman. Entre sus anteriores trabajos como director de fotografía están algunos cortometrajes y documentales. Este parece ser su gran debut en esa área. Tiene experiencia como camarógrafo en películas como El Crítico y Kryptonita.
Luis Machín plays Bernardo. The actor has a long career in theater, film and television in Argentina. A few months ago I saw a movie in which the actor worked: Así Hablo el Cambista. I have also seen him in other films, such as El Lobista, Violeta, Sin Retorno, Maracaibo and Un Oso Rojo. He is a good actor and plays the role of Bernardo perfectly. Celeste Gerez plays Estela. The actress doesn't have a great trajectory like her partner, I didn't know her and I don't think I have seen any of the movies where she has worked. Look on her instagram and apparently she has an acting school. I think she does a correct interpretation, hopefully the actress gets to participate in other productions and her talent is seen. I like when I meet unknown actors or actresses in a story, from my point of view, it brings more realism to the film, not always the same famous faces.
Camila Vaccarini plays Irina. She is a young Argentinean actress of 21 years old. Her previous film was 2018's Paisaje, directed by Jimena Blanco. She is just starting her career. She has a lot of future ahead of her, I want to see her in other productions too. Hopefully she stays strong in her acting career and manages to be a relevant name in Argentine cinema in the future. I am not going to issue a negative criticism against any of the actors, I think they did a solvent job.
Among other actors who have an important character in the film are Susana Varela playing Ramona, who will be very important in the final climax of the film. Actress Graciela Bonomi plays Irina's grandmother. Pablo Peverelli plays Irina's father and, finally, veteran actor Hugo Arana plays Salvador, Bernardo's father.

Tiene mucho futuro por delante, también quiero verla en otras producciones. Ojala se mantenga firme en su carrera de actriz y logre ser un nombre relevante del cine argentino en el futuro. No voy a emitir críticas negativas contra ninguno de los actores, me parece que hicieron un trabajo solvente.
