I really enjoyed watching the Oscars this year. The show seemed to go by quickly and did not seem as bloated and self important as usual.
It was nice to see Spike Lee win his first Oscar. (For best screenplay.) More women won Oscars this year than any year in history. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper performing Shallow was a major highlight for me.
I really liked the variety and diversity of the winning films. The fact that with no clear front runner meant that many different films got major awards. Best picture, best director, best actor, best actress, best song and best screenplay all went to different films.
Some people have issues with Green Book winning. I think that it was a feel good old fashioned film. The performances were so charismatic that it is a worthy winner.
It was interesting that Roma didn’t win best picture. (Although it did win best director.) If it would have won, it would have been the final jewel in the crown for Netflix’s domination of the film industry.
As usual people have tons of gripes and complaints about the Oscars. What did you think?
