Yes, Sony is aggressively expanding their Spider-Verse movies. I think somehow everyone missed the announcement that Olivia Wilde will direct a Spider-Man related movie. She's been an actress for many years, but her directorial debut with Booksmart opened up a lot of doors for her as it was a critical hit. Now she is directing as well as staring in a horror thriller called Don't Worry Darling along with Florence Pugh and a lot of other familiar names. Basically, it appears that Olivia Wilde likes to direct movies that focus mainly on women.
Which Spider-Man character is the best candidate for that? Spider-Woman. The likelihood of that grows as we realize that this movie is also part of the MCU. And you know who Spider-Woman's biggest BFF is? Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. Sure, it could be a Spider-Gwen movie, it will work with all of the multi-verse craziness that Marvel is doing at the moment, but Spider-Gwen and the multi-verse feel like the short term game, while Spider-Woman feels like a long term one. So yeah, Olivia Wilde directing a Spider-Woman movie sounds spot on and super exciting. I hope Captain Marvel will cross into the Sony movies like Iron Man did because they are such a fun duo. Just imagine how fun a Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman team up can be.
I think that Spider-Woman coming to the big screen seems very likely at the moment. What do you think?
