DC have two different problems with Joss Whedon Justice League and Batgirl.
You might have heard about the publicity disaster that Joss Whedon found himself in. If not, I’ll update you on what’s going on. Usually I am the person who separates the person and their art, but this is going to directly affect Justice League. Not a lot of people know this, but Zack Snyder’s wife, Deborah Snyder, also works with him as the producer of Justice League and she too stepped down from Justice League. This means that Joss Whedon is now the only face of this movie, there is no producer that can promote the movie.
For example, Bryan Singer never personally promoted any X-men movie ever since the alleged pedophilia accusation surfaced (I think they were closed, but some people are still not satisfied). Instead, producer and writer Simon Kinberg did most of the interviews to promoted the movies. Perhaps that’s why he’s going to direct X-Men Dark Phoenix, as a reward. Justice League has no Simon Kinberg to lean on.
At first, there were rumors that Joss Whedon might be fired. Which is within DC’s rights if they think his reputation will damage the movie. They have enough problems. As the storm started to pass, DC decided to simply start doing damage control by minimizing his part in the movie. Yesterday (24.8), our Wonder Woman (and DC’s most favorite movie character), Gal Gadot, stated in an interview: “"Look, Joss, to my understanding, was Zack's choice to finish the movie. And the tone can't be completely different because the movie was already shot. Joss is just fine-tuning." (source: http://movieweb.com/justice-league-movie-joss-whedon-cant-change-tone/). Ouch. Basically, forget the co-director credit, he’ll be lucky to get any credit at the end of the movie. Though make no mistake, he will get the paycheck.
Joss Whedon will not promote the movie as much as he should. DC will find him a replacement for the promotion campaign, even if it will have to be Jeff Jones himself. Joss Whedon will be limited to mostly premade videos, just like Bryan Singer.
Justice League is not aimed at Joss Whedon fans, so DC doesn’t need to worry. However, they should take Batgirl from him. In light of this scandal, the terrible script he wrote for Wonder Woman and in light of his unfortunate comments about the character as it seems that he feels the need to make her damaged (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/joss-whedon-batgirl-exploring-damage-behind-his-next-superhero-995812) it’s best that they either change directors or kill the movie. It’s a hopeless in his hands. By unfortunate comments I mean her origin story in my opinion seems pretty light, the damage part comes much later on. My personal recommendation for a director is Jennifer Kent (who was nominated to direct Captain Marvel). Joss Whedon has now become a terrible choice.
