Let me introduce you to this outstanding lady and share about her recently found recording session from 1969 with Miles Davis, a story I read in (once again) my favourite newsletter from the awesome "Dangerous Mind".
When I spotted the subject line, I thought first they are talking about the one and only Bette Davis, 'the ass-kicking woman in her own right'.
But NO!
Its about The Funk, Rock and Soul GODDESS
A BLISTERING 1976 LIVE SET FROM THE QUEEN OF FUNK, BETTY DAVIS
This article is about this outstanding and vibrant "Nasty Gal", I have never heard off before. I said to myself , how is it possible that I don't know who my legendary favourite Jazzer Miles Davis, whom I met personally in 1984, as I wrote in some previous articles, was married to?
I found a couple of pictures as the prove.
In his autobiography, Miles wrote:
“If Betty were singing today she would be something like Madonna, something like Prince only as a woman.” - Source Autobiography
"This is about Betty Davis, born Betty Mabry, who married and divorced none other than Miles Davis in 1968/69, during which time she introduced the trumpet master to the music of Hendrix and Sly Stone; in his memoir Miles credited Betty with sparking the direction his music would take in the 1970s." - Source to read more in dangerous mind article
The muse who changed Miles Davis, and the "heady Brew that rewrote Jazz" as The Guardian wrote.

After the breakup with Miles she moved to London to pursue modeling career and produced her raw, sex-focused albums, banned from radio play.
They were popular among jazz/funk record collectors but she was never breaking the underground ceiling. Her three albums achieved cult-classic status and served as a primary influence and forerunner for liberated female acts of the 80s and 90s.
She gave up in 1979.
This hot& sweet Mamma is different for sure!

She released 3 incredible funk albums in the mid 70s's.
"Betty Davis, They say I'm different" and "Nasty Gal", all three albums have been rescued from unjust obscurity by Light in the Attic Records. In 2009 they also put out "Is it Love or Desire", a full album Betty Davis recorded in 1976 that had never been released.
Last not least:
Here is the outstanding trailer for the documentary on Betty's life, expected next year.
