With traditional piano lessons being around $100 a month per student, I was recently looking for an alternative. That is when I found Hoffman Academy and thought I would give it a try! I watched a few of the videos and got out our keyboard to see how the kids would like it.

Most people pay for piano lessons for about five years. At $100 a month for 5 years, that's $6000 for one child to get one-on-one lessons. That just did not work for our family, but I wanted my kids to learn the piano like I did growing up! That is when I took to the internet and found Hoffman Academy. There is a free option where you can view all the videos or an option to pay $15 a month for one child ($9 each additional child). The paid option gives you a few more options like free downloads of sheet music and worksheets.

I found Mr. Hoffman to be really nice and friendly. He knows what he is talking about and is a great teacher! Each video lesson is around 10-15 minutes and you can rewind and play them over and over again as needed. His goal is to create well-rounded students who comprehend music. To do this, he emphasizes various parts of learning: improvisation, ear training, sightreading, technique, Solfege, rhythm, music theory.
We have only done a few lessons with our oldest son and he has been able to pay a song or two and recognize some keys. It is something I plan to do again soon (as we got out of the habit of doing music lessons - we also lost the plug to the keyboard, so finding that is a must).
