I had my usual 2 to 3 times a week doing Sound at The Bohemian in Richmond.
I had bought a White Ford Sapphire 2 litre, Non Runner that had been built as a Showpiece for a Garage to display their Skills , claiming a Fortune had been spent on it.( I never learn ) Just got it running, Friday , arrives , I take Chris to a Shopping Centre with it in Krugersdorp . Never made it , breaks Down , Shakira comes to tow me home, and I am getting the Evil Eye from the passenger seat!
Chris never approves of my projects.
On the other hand she has been on the receiving end of many of them.
The reason I put the Video at the Top , was because that was how this Car was supposed to Go with the Fortune spent on it!
So , take another Vehicle to the Bo and ( I had called ahead) , running late!
I get there and The Biggest Band I have worked with is there " Van Coke Kartel"
Afrikaans Band from Cape Town doing a Tour, One of the Few South African Bands that can do this Full Time and make a living out of it! A whole area outside of the club, is cordoned off including a section of the street.
The Stage Monitors are missing ?, panic Stations ,Find them in the Kitchen. Set up Drum Mikes, Instrument Mikes, Stands , Vocal Mikes and Cables ,switch on the PA ,
The Mids and Tops amp is Blown! What Next?
Call Bubbles up the Road, no Amps. Call Rene', the system is hired from him, Comes rushing through with another amp , It is nearly 2200 Hours ! They want to start at that time! Biggest crowd we have ever had there , most of them giving me that disapproving look! Not My Finest Hour.
Get everything Working , Tell them Go ahead , I will get everything right in under a Minute of you starting, Band looks a bit dubious , but go ahead, they give me hand signals on the Monitor Balance, sorted!
These Guys are really Good , Francois, Stage Dives into the crowd, only time I ever saw that at this Club.
Crowd go mad , good time is had by all
They come up to me afterwards , Don't know how you did it , we could see by the way the crowd reacted that the Sound was Great , Thank You. Is it not nice to find legitimate Rock Stars with no attitude?
