Over the years South Africa watched a lot of great music artist come and go, unfortunately under exposure allows them to often slip through the cracks, especially given the fact that we are one of the underdog countries of the music industry so to say.
And in an attempt to pay them a little due as well as expose you to the diverse music talent that originated in my country I will share some of these musical Gems with you on Steemit.
In 1968 a South African folk rock ensemble called Four Jacks and a Jill released their hit song called: Master Jack hitting the international music charts by storm and securing their spot at # 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, # 3 on the Adult Contemporary chart as well as # 10 on Cashbox.
Other that America and South-Africa this song was also a hit in:
Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Rhodesia (now known as Zimbabwe)
• Originally named "The Nevadas" way back in 1964, when this band was still all ‘Jacks’ and no ‘Jill’
• The band underwent a name change later and be came known as “The Zombies”
• After the band introduced Glenys Lynne as their lead singer they changed the group name again, this time to: “Four Jacks and a Jill”
• In later years the group recorded numerous educational sing along books in aid of South African Charity Organisations.
