Nothing beats a good drive!
Especially when accompanied by great music!
Moments ago I was listening to my favourite radio station TXFM and the wonderful Joe Donnelly who hosts TXFM Drive read out a text message from a listener.
I just found out about
this station and I love it!
I'll be tuning in from
now on.
it said...
After Joe read this text message out he switched on some Beethoven...
...and said "well, the thing about about that is..."
But he stopped himself and rather than disappoint his new listener he said "great... keep tuning in... lots of great music here"
The sad truth is that the station will be closing down some time this year...
And ever since the news came out several months ago I've been dreading the moment they go off the air.
Some people hate driving.
Personally I love it. The freedom to go where I need to without delay. The power to get to where I need to be without anybody's help. But most of all it's the peace. I feel so at peace when I'm driving because I'm alone with my thoughts and those thoughts are not on what I have to get done before the day or the week is over.
When I get into my car it's just me and my music. And because of the great people at TXFM I don't even have to go to the work of mixing tapes or burning CD's to meet my music taste.
There is literally no other radio station I can stomach! Before I found TXFM I would burn a new CD every month, and that took hours of rooting through music. You just cannot underestimate the therapeutic power of driving while listening to some great music and I cannot exaggerate the value of a great radio station to do the work of getting that great music for you.
What I'll probably have to do when the dreaded day comes is get reaccustomed with Spotify and follow them there like a lost puppy..
You can check out Joe Donnelly @ kildarejoe on Spotify.
So what do they play?
I'll be sharing some of my favourite music in the comment section and you're welcome to listen and vote for what you like most. Between their Breakfast show with Cathal Funge, music from Claire Beck, Kelly-Anne Byrne and many others including the sports commentaries they play all kinds of great music.
The only thing they won't play is pure crap!
And if you think something is crap they even give you the chance to voice that with their "Cheer or Sneer" program where you text in with a cheer or a sneer on music chosen by the host.
The greatest thing as an Irish radio station is they seek out and promote Irish bands, keeping us up to date of the best gigs and shows to get tickets to. Have a listen to the music in the comments (or just go to http://www.txfm.ie/drive and/or download the app and listen in to the show) and see what you think. :)
