They track our every move. Internet service providers, software giants, hardware manufacturers. They ask us nicely for personal details, and we willingly give them every bit of data in exchange for their products and services. What application we used and when exactly to the second, the places we went based on GPS data, cell towers data and even WiFi router data. The diseases and pills we searched online. Wherever we go, their smartphones log everything they see around us, their operating systems know how often we check our bank accounts or fall ill, their search engines know exactly what we need on a daily basis, their messengers keep every word we said to the close ones in private conversations. And this data is piled up on their servers until their new CEO decides to make a better use of it rather than simpy showing us ads. Or our newly elected authorities ask these companies to kindly create a few backdoors to monitor the political situation in the country. They hardly care that every backdoor created for the big brother is an exploit the hackers won't hesitate to use to steal your hard earned money or worse - to steal your identity and commit crimes under it. Our safety is our own concern. In this day and age, we must become fully aware of the ways our data is tracked, logged and used. We must educate ourselves on cyber security and we must start now.
