This one was easy, since it is one of my favorites!
Written by Johnny Cash in 1953, while he served in the US army in West Germany.
It is a story about a prisoner who killed a man "just to watch him die".
Johnny Cash once said that he tried to figure out what would be the worst reason for killing man and that's what he came up with. I'm not sure if other reasons to take a man's life are better, but this one is certainly one of the cruelest.
Folsom Prison Blues is first recorded in 1955 but it took 13 years to top the charts. Johnny Cash released a live album recorded in Folsom prison itself and that version of the song was a huge success.
