Last weekend, Lori and I headed over to The Waterfront in Forked River, New Jersey, for dinner. We wanted to listen to some music and on The Waterfront's web page it stated that Oova Groova was performing. Not sure if this was a band, I called the restaurant and found out it was, except the person who answered the phone called them Ooba Dooba. Well needless to say this didn't satisfy my curiosity but we checked it out anyway.
The table we were given was so close to the band that we could have been considered members of the group. The only difference would be that I was stuffing my mouth with Turkey and Stuffing instead of singing. All three members that were there this evening all sang and quite well I may add.
In addition, they all looked familiar, as if I had seen them with other bands before. They practically played the entire time we were there, so I didn't get a chance to talk to them. Of course, this didn't count the song suggestions we yelled at them when they asked for some.
They performed an eclectic mix of music, with the majority being classic rock. Even a one-hit wonder was represented by the song "Wildfire" by Michael Martin Murphy. The lead female vocalist really ripped through "Separate Ways." The other female tackled The Kinks' "Come Dancing" very well. Guitar, kazoo, an electronic drum pad and tambourine was enough to fill the entire room.
Lori requested "Blue Bayou" and that is what they were performing in the photo above. Even though they had a black curtain hanging as their backdrop, they harmonized this song side-by-side, as the wait staff had to move around them. Their harmonies were amazing on this number, especially since they never performed it before. It was a fun night and I definitely got my oova groova on!
