Tom and family invited me to a concert to be held at the Northampton Center for the Arts. They were a group of kids from the Monday Homeschool Coop who had been playing together for a while. All three young people play multiple instruments. They are L – R: Quinn Eastburn, Wylie Robbins Thorne-Thomsen, Micah John, and a guest performer Garrett Sawyer on bass.
Wylie is off to college in the fall and this was organized as a farewell for him.
The band’s name is Off the Porch and they played familiar songs and some contemporary bluegrass tunes.
Wylie and Micah were the primary vocalists, as duets and solos. Quinn joined in on the last song.
Quinn played mandolin and violin, Wylie played guitar, banjo, and mandolin, and Micah played violin and guitar.
They have played together at several venues in the area. They met at the Ossipee Valley Music Festival and String Camp.
Outside of having a hard time keeping instruments in tune throughout the multiple changes, they played well and did a wide variety of songs. They played for the best part of 2 hours without a break.
It was a fun way to end the day and it was nice seeing a lot of the people I’d met at the Monday Coop events.
