I didn't have anything I really wanted
to share today, so I figured it'd be a good time for a throwback. A couple of years ago, I downloaded some new synths and drum packs (I believe from AfroDJmac and Puremagnetix), and wrote a bunch of songs using them, so I ttiled them in a sort of series. It began with 1-5, then the second series was numbered 21-28, then 31-37, etc. I got up to the sixth set, and then I guess I sort of moved on, I don't really remember if I decided to stop using only these instruments purposely, or if it was just sort of random. I still like a lot of these, though I think the first 5 were probably the best.
Listen to 3 here.
This is the longest, and probably
most layered, of all the songs. Most were pretty short, and generally sparse. I really like the main instrument here, it uses a sampled Otamatone, an interesting children's instrument, which has a very quacky effect. The song is clearly electronic/synthy, but I used some 'real' drums, with a bit of overdrive on them, which worked really well to build things up. The song has a sort of 'fake-out fade-out' in the middle, and then suddenly everything drops back in all at once, which is interesting. I think originally, the song faded out in the middle and just ended, but I copy-pasta'd the end, which turned out to be a good move.
