So this is a really odd creation
from the other night, using Ableton's Simpler instrument and some samples from a set called 'Kleine Stuecke', made up of a bunch of strange, cassette based samples and sounds. There are two tracks that use these, which provide the bulk of the sounds, though I also added the upright bass from NI's Komplete Start package, using 1/4 tone tuning to provide some cool warbliness. The other two tracks are drums, which I wanted to keep weird too, so theres a sort of stumbling, off-kilter rhythm between the hihats.
Listen to Cassettessettessettes here.
Track 1 comes in after the intro,
playing for 8 bars, then disappearing for 8, playing for another 8, then going away as the song fades out. Track 2 provides the bulk of the harmony, and plays the progression below. This sample has a major chord and a IV built in, so whatever single note played will feel much fuller. The first 12 bars feel pretty straight-forward, moving from C to F, to C, but then we drop down to A (which is an Amajor), then up to Bbmajor, before repeating. I also added a second screenshot below, which shows the upright bass. Remember when viewing it, with 1/4 tone tuning, an octave is spread over the distance of 2 keyboard octaves, so the big interval jumps aren't as large as they look.
