Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies
Alice Cooper is an American rock
legend, who is considered the creator of shock-rock, and has had an incredibly long, successful career. The name Alice Cooper originally belonged to an entire band, but later would be adopted by singer Vincent Furnier as HIS name when he embarked on a solo career. I'm not sure this has ever happened before or since, a solo artist taking a band's name, and making it synonymous with him.
Listen to Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper.
This song appeared on Cooper's
1973 album by the same name. This was probably the first song of his I heard on a "Best Of" CD many years ago, and definitely got me hooked. The opening drum riff, which continues through the song is great and really drives things a long, and the guitar parts are super cool, using a sort of Spanish/Flamenco sort of concept at certain points. The vocals are definitely very Cooper-esque, with the over-dubbed creepy spoken lyrics over the sung ones.
