Kate Bush - Moving
Kate Bush is one of my all time favorite
artists, with one of the most incredible discographies and a unique, interesting career trajectory. She has been experiencing an amazing resurgence in popularity, thanks to the Netflix show Stranger Things featuring her single 'Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)' in its 4th season; it is actually a major element of the plot, and is played in both its original form and new, orchestral variations throughout. Bush grew up in a musical family; her parents were amateur artists, with her father playing piano and her mother involved in dance, while both of her brothers were in the local folk scene. In her teens, Kate recorded a demo, which wound up in the hand's of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, who financed more high quality demos. These would, after various twists and turns, result in Bush getting a deal with EMI records, and eventually releasing her debut album The Kick Inside in 1978, which is where today's song comes from. This track opens the album, which also features her massive hit single 'Wuthering Heights'. A lot of people know Bush from her '80s material, but this stuff is equally great, though instrumentation-wise, its very different. A lot of these tracks are built around the piano, with more traditional rock instruments used. While Bush's songs are experimental and at times prog. influenced, her sound incorporated a lot of pop elements, making it equally accessible but also very unique.
