Little Dragon - Ritual Union
I had completely forgotten about this band
for probably the last two years until today, when I was looking through old playlists on my computer. I then went on a bit of a binge, listening to all of their albums while working today, haha. My friend Mike first introduced them to me, and I got pretty hooked. I almost saw them live, but wound up being out of town that one weekend, and haven't seen them since. Fortunately, they're still around, so I have hope. The band was first formed in 1996 in Gothenburg, Sweden by Yukimi Nagano (vocals, percussion), Erik Bodin (drums), Fredrik Wallin (bass) and Håkan Wirenstrand (keyboards), who have all remained in the group. While they are categorized as an electronic band, they incorporate a lot of elements of funk and soul, along with lots of other genres, to create a sound that is really fun and dancey, and also really well produced. This song is the title track from the band's 2011 album, which was my first introduction to the group. I really like the sparse hi-hat pattern that they slowly build up on top of, creating a REALLY awesome groove over the course of the song.
