I continued to work on this a bit
yesterday, but I didn't add a whole lot so I wasn't sure if I wanted to do a new update, but I figured it'd be good to document the changes over the course of the next week. I added a set of two tracks for snare hits, one with a super digital snare that has a sort of simulated delay effect (with a bunch of 1/16th note hits, descending in velocity) and a big, reverb laden '80s sort of snare on top. I think the beat would be much more effective if the kick wasn't so muddied up in the mix, so that will be a big part of the next set of edits I make.

I wrote most of this while just using
my laptop and the built in speakers, so a lot of things I couldn't hear until listening in the car with a more 'full' sound system. I realized that a lot of the synths were clashing, and that I need to really get into them with some EQs and make sure everything is in its own place. Synths are by far the hardest thing for me to work with, particularly ones with effects built in, as they can range all over the spectrum from low to high, and move around within it as the effects change. I was thinking that I need to devote some time to watching some in-depth YouTube tutorials regarding this; I was listening to some bands/artists yesterday, and their ability to record/use synths and make them sound so clear and individually obvious really made me jealous, lol. So, that's on the agenda, for sure.
