This isn't finished, but of all the songs
I've shared in the last few weeks, I think this is the most 'complete' thus far. The drums are where I need to fill things a bit, at least at certain points, as right now there is only a kick part, and some glitchy hi-hats. There are a whole bunch of synths used here, all of which are from the Strobe2 library, which was included with the ROLI Seaboard keyboard. I also didn't do a whole lot of mixing here, aside from some really basic compressor/limiter stuff on the master track, so I think this will really come together after spending more time on the nitty gritty stuff.
Listen to LazerSunrise here.
A weird thing happened while I was first
writing the Orange progression here. I initially planned on this being in Eminor, and the progression moving from C to D before eventually resolving, but because the Eminor chord only comes in at the end, you never really get the feeling of that being the home chord. Instead, the Aminor does, and the Dmajor just feels like a substitute for the iv minor chord. This really becomes clear in the Pink section, as we move from Aminor to Gmajor, then from Amin to Fmajor. I wanted the F to originally be the bII in Eminor, but again, it just doesn't wind up feeling like that.
There are far too many synths here
to go through them one by one, but basically it breaks down as follows: Tracks 1 and 4 are the bass lines, Tracks 2 and 3 the chords, Tracks 5, 6, 7 and 11 some additional synths (melodies, harmony parts, accents), and then our drums in Tracks 13 and 14. The little group at the end (Group 8) is just some audio clips with swells/impacts from a Cymatics library. I generally don't use very many audio clips (except through the Simpler instrument), but these are really useful in at least filling in where things need to build up, and where I need heavy accents, usually on the first beat of a new section.
