So this isn't a complete song,
more of just a little experiment with various synth sounds in Logic. I was originally going to add some drums, but I kind of like it only being a bunch of synths. Initially, this was going to be a very straight-forward, sort of retro 80s thing, but the arpeggiated synth (specifically Track 3) wound up having a note off beat, which made for a really interesting rhythm, so I went in that direction. In the second screenshot below, you can see that every second note starts on the 1/8th note between the 1 and 2 of the second measure. Because of the arpeggiator effect, the progression restarts there, so it gives it this interesting, off-kilter sort of thing.
Listen to Moonbass here.
The basic chord tones are mapped
in Track 1, beginning on our tonic of Eb (in Eb minor), down to the bVi (Cb [enharmonically B]), and finally to Db, before repeating. Tracks 2 and 3 use the same instrument, but with a different setting, and provide the arpeggiated bulk of the tune. Track 4 adds some synth strings, which just accent the hits on the 1 of every other measure. Track 5 is the weird, glitched out synth melody line, and finally, Tracks 6 and 7 both add another single note sequence, just adding more synthy textures to the tune.
I think with some work,
removing some things, fixing up other parts, some mixing, etc. this could become a more complete song. I may do this over the course of the next week, so if I edit this more, I'll be sure to update accordingly.
