This is definitely not a complete song,
and I don't love the drums (which only play over 3 small portions of the track), but I love the timbre of the synths, and the build ups/drop offs with the hi-cut filters, so I am definitely going to try and build around this. The synths are all from the Strobe2 library, which was included with the Seaboard from ROLI. There are SO many sounds in it, I've just barely scratched the surface, but I've been trying to use at least one or two instruments from it, and develop some favorites. I think with a little mixing, and a complete overhaul of the drums, this could become a lot cooler.
Listen to Space Yaz here.
Tracks 2, 3 and 4 are grouped together,
and all play the same progression, pictured below. I've included a second screenshot that shows the hi-cut happening (as the automation line goes down) and where the big build ups happen (where the automation line goes back up). These synths work nicely together, but definitely take up a HUGE portion of the mix, so I'll be tweaking things a bit to get a little more room for other things. The next 4 tracks are all for the drums, with Track 5 being the only strange one: this plays a constant 1/4 note kick rhythm, but is muted, and is only used for a sidechain compression on the synths. The last group is just some audio clips that add some heavy impact sounds on certain sections.
