As well as the more in depth stuff I have planned that I mentioned in previous posts, I thought I'd start a little weekly blog with a quick run down of what I've been up to this week.
We identified in the comments to another post that I tend to overthink things, and should just get on with stuff. So in true 'Be More Pirate' fashion, I'm just going to crack on, and I'll cut my cloth to suit as we go on.
Gribblytunes
On the gribblymusic front - been a bit slow, to be honest. I have two deadlines running at the moment. A collaboration with Daveyhub from EMA, and another track for something I'm not sure I can talk about. Yet.
The Daveyhub track has been bubbling along for a while - but needs to be nailed by the end of the year. It a collaboration as I mentioned, and he's sent me a cool staring point. Problem is, there's been loads of stuff happening recently, so it's dropped though the cracks a bit - and then when I do work on it I just make it worse. So I'm in a bit of a stalemate with that one - all on me. There's nothing wrong with Daveyhub's tune - I just can't get hold of it. It goes that way sometimes. Anyway - I shall persevere. I've been here before - and generally my muse stumps up - I find a spark, and then we're riding the wave.
The other thing needs to be done by the 21st. Pretty much there with that one - I'm at the listening to it lots in different places stage to see if it needs anything else. Normally, I'd share a work in progress here, but not this one. I'll reveal all as & when, but for now here's a little teaser of a bit of an effects laden vocal loop I'm using.
Nice, eh. I like that bit a lot. Works well in the track, as well. ;-)
Apart from that, lots of notes - both musical and words - are being made for an upcoming release. More on that as & when too.
Chilled Sundays
This is generally what my Sunday Nights look like. Up in my spare room studio, with Radio Evolved on accompanied by a nice single malt. Laphroaig Select, tonight.
RE is a weekly show that plays out tracks from artists connected with Atom Collector Records and Rising Star. Hosted by Jux (who codes both platforms), it's a cracking mix of music and chat about Rising star, with an associated Discord channel that is basically a gif-fest that goes along with the music. It's streamed ove YouTube, but the music is compiled on soundcloud and now Audius playlists. If you're at a loose end at 8PM GMT, then why not pop along. You can find info in the pinned posts in the Discord channel here --> https://discord.gg/AedYg2rG
Vinyl
Being a music loving child of the 80s I've a bit of a thing for vinyl. I'll write more about his in other posts, I guess. But one thing I do like is a good box set. Most of the time, I can't really justify splurging the silly amounts that folk tend to ask - but every now and again I snag a bargain - or something comes up that I can't ignore. this happened yesterday. I love Pye Corner Audio. I'm a bit of a sucker for that whole hauntology/retrowave schtick. Well, a 10th anniversary box set of the Black Mill Tapes was announced this weekend. Only previously available digitally and some stuff was on limited cassette, the box set if 5 coloured vinyl LPs. And looes scrumptious. Pretty much an instabuy for me. Oh, and the 'lore' behind the tunes is lovely:
The history of the Black Mill Tapes series begins in 2010, in the English village of Coldred (population 110). An auction is happening, and an employee of Pye Corner Audio Transcription named Martin Jenkins — known to some as the Head Technician — happens across a curio in the auction catalogue: three boxes, described as containing “archived magnetic recordings.” The Head Technician makes the only bid, and walks away with numerous decaying cassettes and reel-to-reel tapes bearing no descriptors, save for the phrase “Black Mill Sessions” scrawled on each box.

Can't wait for it to arrive...
I think that'll do for now. I think these gribblyblogs will be a bit random and wandering. I'm thinking of doing them weekly, but I'll apologise in advance if shizz happens and I miss a week
So.
