So yesterday I'm driving in my truck to pick up some dinner and this old song from the 80's came on the radio. That actually happens a lot especially on Classic Hits radio stations. Makes me feel old that the music I used to listen to is now considered Classic Rock. This particular song on this particular day made me think of the old days when MTV actually played music videos and brought back a flood of memories.
I had never actually heard this song all the way through because from the moment I first heard it I hated it. It went against everything I stood for which was mainly heavy metal and hard rock. The song? Take On Me by A-ha.
I never watched the video all the way through either but did think the video itself had some cool shit going on.
Here's the video for your viewing (dis)pleasure, whichever relates to you.
I've always found it funny how there are songs which I absolutely hated when I was younger that I actually like now.
For the record... THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE SONGS, I STILL HATE IT!
I can't believe I listened to the whole thing but I think I was mesmerized by memories.
Much respect to the singer Morten Harket though cause he does have some decent pipes. Still hate your song bro!
If you like this song, that's cool, we can still be friends. I'm not judgmental like that.
Now let's look at another song that I hated back in the 80's. Careless Whisper by Wham or George Michael depending on which part of the internet you're reading.
No doubt about it I hated this song and the band Wham but I remember a buddy of mine playing this song on guitar in the mid 90's and that was when I realized this is a bad ass song. There's also no denying that George Michael (R.I.P.) was a powerhouse vocalist.
Final word on this one... I love it, great song!
Next we'll be looking at a song that I should have hated but have to admit it's always been a little bit of a guilty pleasure for me. The song is Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds. This song still conjures images of Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Emelio Estevez, Judd Nelson and Anthony Michael Hall aka 5/8ths of The Brat Pack.
I had forgotten how creepy this video is and I still can't believe I went to high school with dudes that dressed like these guys.
There are very few songs that automatically make me think of a movie but this one makes me think of The Breakfast Club. Yes, I just snuck an Amazon affiliate link into this post. Don't hate me cause I'm an opportunist! Love me cause I post cool and sometimes unusual videos.
Along those same lines, any song by Cyndi Lauper makes me think of The Goonies aka greatest movie ever! Yes, I snuck in another affiliate link
And finally this last song was one that I fell in love the very first moment I heard it and the first time was when the video came on MTV. Headbangers Ball to be exact. The song? Modern Day Cowboy by Tesla... Phuque yes! This song is still the shit.
Oh yeah, Nuff said!
I love reminiscing about my life during the 80's but when I see some of these old videos I can't believe how we dressed. I'm still not sure how I was able to fit into my tiny jeans.
Did the decision of MTV to stop playing music videos cause the decline of the record industry or was it a symptom of the decline? Hmmmm?
Anyhow, thanks for checking in and I hope you enjoy this post.
