"Celebrations to steal life
Reminiscing to feel right
Remembering what it would feel like
Sometimes it's better than real life
So we celebrate the memories
You can't replace the energy
Everything how it was meant to be
Conducting dreams like symphonies"
Murs - Celebrate
For those of you in need of some real hip-hop in this era of mumble rap, I highly recommend this album.
Murs is a storyteller from L.A. that's been doing it since the 90's, starting out with the Living Legends. He began working with Slug from Atmosphere on the Feltalbums which is where I became more interested than I ever was in his earlier days. Perhaps it was the production, or the lack his lack of appearances amongst a crew the size of Living Legends. He's continuously released solo albums in the recent years which I've thoroughly enjoyed.
This album keeps it going with a new feel thanks to production from Micheal "Seven" Summers. There's good range with some mellow down tempo beats, some good boom bap as well as some bangers. The momentum seems to pick up around track 6.
Overall, a solid album. Extra points for all of the BEASTIEs references on Celebrate.
MCA Rest in Peace
For those of you that don't know me, or for those that know me and don't realize it, I'm an encyclopedia of hip-hop and I'm always up for discussing the topic at hand... or even some hip-hop Trivia.
90's boom-bap is my ish. Test me.
I don't claim to know it all, but I know my share and I love to share the gems I've found over the past several decades.
Comment to get the conversation started, or ask questions if you think there's something I might be able to enlighten you with.
In the meantime, enjoy!
Thanks again for stoppin' by
Cheers!
