The story of Detroit techno has it’s heroes and some of the people involved into the genre are familiar with the names such as Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Eddie Fowlkes, Blake Baxter and Santonio Echols. But the rest of audience don’t know much about the history of techno, deeply rooted to African American community of Motor City. Well, there's a good news for both parties – a new documentary 'God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines’ is waiting to be released by the end of 2018 to shine light on the history of one of the most important post-modern music genre ever created.
The documentary features all the gentlemen mentioned above, the originators of Detroit techno in 1980s. According to the trailer, which you can check on movie’s Kickstarter page, it’s gonna be a no less than a crusade to spread a real story of (quote) ‘unsung African American community that created Techno music and how the business of music have betrayed them’. Well said.
