I know, you spotted a misspelling in the title, actually....., it's not !
Just for fun, in 1986, a bunch of Swedish students came together, forming a band and performing at an end of college term party.
They called themself AB/CD (pun intended).
These talented musicians were spotted by an astute producer who got them in a studio to record a mini-LP entitled Victim Of Rock released on the Doremi label.
Here's the track that gives the name to the album, Victim Of Rock (Died Of An Electric Shock):
If you know AC/DC (and if you're reading this I guess you do) you may think that you're listening to one of their song.
AB/CD have gained a place in music history because their sound is so similar to AC/DC but their tracks are unique. It's not a cover band otherwise it would have been useless mentioning them in this blog.
Indeed, worldwide, many other AC/DC tribute bands have branded themself as AB/CD but none of them, at least to my knowledge, have made records with "soundalike" original songs as the original Swedish AB/CD have.
Although the mini-LP was well received, at that time, no other label outside Sweden was keen in publishing their mini-album, scared off by potential court actions from the original AC/DC. Reluctant in changing their identity and ruining the whole parody, AB/CD disbanded in 1987.
As it usually happen in music, the band reunited few years later and that time they managed to attract the multinational label RCA/BMG Records which have distributed their following two albums.
Here's the official video of the song The Rock 'n' Roll Devil from their second album:
