The ukulele
Hi dear Steemians, I'm going to talk to you today about the ukulele. I just gave one to my kids for Christmas one because their dad is playing guitar and I thought they would be easier to play with a ukulele that is smaller than a guitar and two j ' have always wanted to learn to play ukulele so I thought it was an opportunity to learn with them.
The ukulele is a traditional Hawaiian plucked string instrument, close to the cavaquinho, a popular instrument of Portugal.
This small instrument has a unique sound and brings a more exotic atmosphere. He has a unique, charming and attractive sound.
The ukulele is an adaptation of the braguinha or machete of Madeira Island which is one of the forms of Portuguese cavaquinho.
The anatomy of a ukulele resembles that of a guitar. The crate that has a hole on the top is responsible for producing the sound. Depending on the type of wood manufacturers can influence the sound. The neck with the strings allows us to create notes.
Ukulele for children
A ukulele is half the size of a guitar and weighs about 500 grams. The ukulele has only 4 strings instead of 6.
The sound is less powerful than a guitar and has its own charm.
The ukulele is smaller and lighter and for this it is ideal for small hands and arms of children.
It is equipped with nylon strings that have less tension, suddenly, the beginner gets hurt less easily than with a guitar (I remember that my husband had bloody fingers at first when he learned his skin later is hardened by playing). It also makes the game easier for little beginners who will quickly make progress.
Indeed, a lot of beginners are already able to play a song with their ukulele after practicing for a day. Most ukulele chords are very simple and we get results quickly, which is motivating.
The ukulele does not cost much compared to other instruments. A good ukulele is already available from 60 €.
Ukulele for beginner adults
I always thought that if one day I had to learn a musical instrument it would be the ukulele, I love his sound and as I'm not very tall and I have small hands, it's easier for me rather than a big guitar, plus it has only 4 strings, which accelerates learning.
Before buying a ukulele, know that there are several types: the soprano, the concert, the tenor and the baritone
The ideal when you start is to take the soprano.
The soprano
It is the standard model, the best-selling and the best known.
It is the smallest model which makes it easy to carry everywhere. The soprano is equipped with nylon ropes.
The concert
It is the first choice for most passionate ukulele players.
It is more suitable for large hands. It has steel strings, so the sound is brighter than that of the soprano.
The tenor
It is very popular among more established players and music bands who perform their music with this little instrument. It has a much more powerful sound than the first two.
The baritone
It produces high-pitched sounds. Its length and its tuning fork looks like a guitar. The big difference compared to other models is its tuning. The baritone is rather a model for people who already have a ukulele concert or soprano and want to expand their repertoire.
