I am broke, so why not listen to some Baroque music together?
It won't cost you a dime to share the vibes.
Arcangelo Corelli
You may think this Italian artist is a bunch of baloney, but give it a listen and you should be amazed. This is Concerto grosso in F. It is Opus 6, No.9 - 4. Gavotta: Allegro.
I wasn't aware that fiddle players could boost my spirits like this. It's only 49 seconds but it brings me to another world. Listening to this is kind of like eating a small chocolate. It fills the mouth with wonder and even gets you up to dance and then as quickly as it started it is over. Still it's a perfect piece to get us started in the Baroque period.
That was a nice piece to get warmed up, but that was an allegro. It's fine for getting spirits up, but it doesn't give the mind enough room to contemplate and relax and set free. I would like to listen to something a little slower with some meditative qualities.
Georg Philipp Telemann
Telemann - Viola Concerto in G major TWV51:G9: Largo
This music has a spiritual feeling. The notes intentionally lift you into praise and meditation to consider that the world is much larger than you and your problems. There is a sense of hope and prayer with each stroke of the Viola going up the scale.
That fact that it is written in G major makes me feel good. It is comfortable to my ears and never foreboding. Although it has spiritual qualities it is light enough to lift me up and guide me into a path of healing. It ends on a very positive note.
We went from an Allegro Violin to a Largo Viola. What's next?
Or should I ask what is last?
I need something a little richer and deeper to bring us to the climax of this Baroque experience. Who would be better to call up then Johann Sebastian Bach and a Cello piece played by none other than Yo-Yo Ma?
Johann Sebastian Bach
Cello Suite No. 6 in D Major, BWV 1012: VI. Gigue
Perhaps I am leaving too early, but this is the perfect piece to end with. The climatic experience is so real it is like we are climbing a ladder up Yo-yo's cello but I don't feel a bit of heaviness. I feel lighter and lighter as I climb the ladder.
I am free from all the troubles and difficulties and my brain finds closure. Maybe I couldn't solve every problem today, but I winding down the path taking each step of the journey. It is not always the end result that counts but how we get there.
Don't be surprised that when we do get there it is a very simple note of one accord.

I hope this music helped you chill out as much as it did for me.
