Look, let it be known that I love vinyl records. I don’t have anything against other music formats per sé, as I believe they all have their place, and that stilling the mind of distractions long enough to really listen to an album are more important, but when I really want to listen to the depth and richness of good sonic audio quality that has an indescribable analog warmth, I put on a vinyl record and sit back and enjoy the journey.
During ’s awesome show my life in 8 songs, one of the guests chose a Peter Gabriel song. (Obviously has good taste) And
and I proceeded to chat about the genius that is Peter Gabriel.
So one of my more recent vinyl purchases was remastered rereleased soundtrack to the original motion picture the Last Temptation of Christ called Passion by Peter Gabriel.
It has long been one of my favourite records and certainly one of my favourite soundtracks.
It was released in 1987, but I don’t think I actually heard it properly, consciously until sometime in the early 90s.
It introduced me to the incredible music of Qawali singer Nusrat fateh Ali Khan, African singer Yousendour, darabuka master Hossam Ramsy and other amazing world musicians.
Aside from the music,I think that the Martin Scorsese directed film is also brilliant.
This record, or rather, three records have been mastered at half speed to in Hants the audio quality even more. Normally albums, or LPs, are played at 33 rpm, but this record is played at 44 rpm.
For a fussy sonic aficionado, like myself, this is pure gold.
