Every now and again I come across a great online project that deserves a mention and today I want to point you in the direction, especially if you are into recording sounds, sampling perhaps, that kind of thing, to Cities and Memory.
The project is the worlds largest recording of sounds from around the world, contributed by field recordists and sound artists. The aim is to take these sounds and remix the world.
The home page is fabulous, from here you can listen to a daily featured sound or click through to one of three sections that lead to:
- Radio: Infinite stream of sounds from the library
- Collection of disappearing sounds
- Well-being cities, exploring sustainability through sound
You can stay up to date with the project and this is one of my favourite ways, via their podcast, available on a whole host of different platforms.
In the meantime, you can listen to an interview with C&Ms founder Stuart Fawkes on BBC Radio 4: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4dqbdT8xwR3Qq0nZmLJvuI?si=Cjb1e0VxT0in9DMq3iBcpg
Submit your sounds
I am going to buy myself a little recorder sometime next year because one of the things I love around here are the plethora of sounds I hear every day in my own environment. You can contribute too:
