Paige's Playlist, April 18 2020: "Poor George" - James Supercave
"Poor George" is a song that I heard a few weeks ago, and it is one that I have been thinking about since. This song has some incredible instrumentals that convey the story of the song just as well as the lyrics do, of the titular character George, how his growth was affected by his environment, and how who he became as a person affects the people around him. The song starts with a very simple, stagnated guitar line backed by a steady drum beat and a subtle bass line, which serves to create a sense of unease that builds as the music becomes more complex and overbearing. Unease turns into anxiety that you can also hear in the vocal performance, that keeps on building and building into the final chorus where the bubble just bursts.
